MCEC Confident as 2022 and PacPrint Approach

The Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre held its first ‘Centrestage Update’ customer briefing via Zoom last week, saying the lifting of restrictions around Australia and in particular in the southern capital, point to a bright outlook for 2022.The news was overwhelmingly good for PacPrint, with all signs pointing to the MCEC holding numerous events well before Christmas and expecting a big lift in both the number of events, and the venue’s capacity limits, from March and April next year.MCEC Chief Executive, Peter King, was joined by COO Helen Fairclough, Chief Communications Officer Melissa Sweetland and Senior Manager for Security & Safety Darren Horne – probably the meeting’s most anticipated speaker – to bring event organisers up to date with the latest developments, as well as the outlook from government and health authorities. While the pandemic had created an undeniably difficult landscape for the venue, King said his team had used the time wisely, adding expertise and capabilities, expanding and revising its management structure, and investing in new digital tools and technologies to make it even more agile and customer-focused.There is no question, he said, that venues are on the way back to full capacity, with the MCEC positioned more strongly than most due to positive discussions with Government which could see it designated a ‘venue of significance’ – leading to an expedited easing of restrictions. An announcement on that is expected soon.Jenny Harris, Events Manager for Visual Connections, the event organisers for PacPrint, Visual Impact and the Label & Packaging Expo, says the outlook should give confidence to everyone making plans to travel to Melbourne for the shows.“The indications from government are very clear that we will be moving to lift a whole suite of restrictions into 2022 as we work towards living safely with COVID-19,” she said following the meeting.“Already, the MCEC is hosting successful events, and we would expect that things will look almost back to normal by the time PacPrint rolls around mid-year. “Regardless of restriction changes, however, the MCEC is now well-versed in providing a COVID-safe environment with contactless check in and payment systems across the venue, clear signage and floor decals, more than 100 sanitiser stations and plenty of COVID marshalls to enforce capacity limits and social distancing.”“Other risk mitigation strategies include things like revised cleaning schedules and a new return-air HVAC system, which pushes 100% fresh air into an indoor space, lifting the air quality to essentially on par with outdoor spaces.”With virtual and hybrid event elements also being facilitated, and the physical spaces within the MCEC complex being reimagined with greater access to outdoor areas and the new 2000m2 rooftop Skyfarm now available for event organisers, the future does indeed look bright.“We have an excellent relationship with the team at the MCEC and are working closely with them, with our other partners, and with well over 60 exhibitors as we confidently prepare for the shows to open from June 28 – July 1, 2022,” Harris said. The latest information, floor plans, exhibitor details and more will continue to be available on the PacPrint website, www.pacprint.com.au Read More. . .

BREAKING NEWS: PacPrint 2021 Postponed

The PacPrint Board has today announced that, due to ongoing uncertainty caused by COVID outbreaks around the country, the industry's leading expo has been postponed until the middle of 2022. PacPrint 2021, Visual Impact Melbourne and the Label & Packaging Expo were due to open at the end of September, however with the current situation in Sydney and, to a lesser extent, Melbourne, Queensland and South Australia, Chair of the Board Sue Threlfo says the decision became ‘inevitable’. “The past couple of weeks has demonstrated that, unfortunately, this pandemic is far from over. Realistically, we have come to accept that restrictions will continue to apply for some weeks and perhaps months to come, which may impact not only on the venue arrangements, but on the ability of our exhibitors to properly prepare their stands. “We’ve been in constant discussions with the MCEC and with Austrade, and the owners of the shows Visual Connections Australia and the Print & Visual Communications Association (PVCA), as the situation has evolved. “We are all in agreement that the increasing uncertainty for our exhibitors and visitors has become untenable, so we have made the exceptionally difficult decision to postpone the expo until 2022. “The exhibitors are supportive of this decision and have indicated their commitment to the show remains unchanged.” The new dates – the first available at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre for next year – will be June 28 – July 1, 2022. The latest information, floor plans, exhibitor details and more will continue to be available on the PacPrint website, www.pacprint.com.au Read More. . .

Shann to Showcase Drytac Products at Visual Impact Expo

Shann Group, leading supplier of wide format print media, industrial fabrics, specialised textiles and associated products, will showcase options for the shop fitout, interiors, sign, display and wide-format print markets at the Visual Impact Expo, to be held alongside PacPrint 2021 at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre in Melbourne at the end of September. Jack Matherson, National Product Manager – Digital Print Media for Shann says the display will centre around the popular Drytac range of products, providing options for a wide range of retail, commercial and interior applications, wall coverings, banners and graphics, among other things. “We’re planning to have a diverse selection of products on display to inspire and inform industry professionals who need high quality solutions for a wide variety of applications,” Matherson says, adding that the display will include a number of eco-friendly products that are not only PVC-free, but are made using recycled or recyclable content. Leading the display will be the Australian launch of Drytac’s popular Retac range of wall graphics, with finishes including smooth, linen, woodgrain, sand and more. “The ReTac range of polymeric removable vinyl’s enables businesses to create displays that not only target specific products and areas, but which can be easily moved to respond to changes in footfall or campaign strategy,” Matherson explains. “This is due to Drytac’s unique adhesive science, which allows graphics to be removed and repositioned many times without losing adhesion, and leaving no residue at all when it’s removed.” Windows and other high-profile surfaces will also be a feature, with DryTac’s ViziPrint products including the Deco SR scratch-resistant, optically clear film which adheres permanently to virtually any smooth surface, including glass, plastic and metal, and ViziPrint Illuminate for front- or back-lit applications. “Deco SR is ideal for high-end architectural and building requirements as well as a variety of custom branding and decorating applications,” Matheson explains, saying the durable film is designed to last for up to seven years making it ideal for long-term indoor or outdoor window and building graphics. “ViziPrint Illuminate has been specially designed to deliver an unrivalled experience, day or night. It’s a translucent, matte PET film which is reverse-printable ideal for applications like window advertisements, which are viewed during the day in direct sunlight, or illuminated by store lighting at night,” he says, “and it’s also ideal for privacy or decorative applications and backlit displays. “Again, both products feature patented Drytac adhesion technology, so they’re removed easily leaving no residue.” Adding a slightly different angle to ‘removable graphics’ the company will also show the ChalkMate PVC film which provides permanent chalkboard finish wherever it’s required, and the WipeErase permanent dry erase films, which create more of a ‘whiteboard’ surface. “Self-adhesive, printable ChalkMate film is ideal for teaching environments, restaurants and bars, offices and at home – in fact, the applications are almost endless,” Matheson says. “Because it’s a film, ChalkMate can be cut into custom shapes, overprinted with branding or permanent messaging, and it can be used with either conventional chalk or chalkboard markers. “The WipeErase range, which includes permanent white and clear films, as well as a ReTac removable option, feature a chemical, scratch- and graffiti- resistant gloss surface which resists ghosting or staining from ink, providing the ideal surface for planning or scheduling boards, menus, maps, calendars, sports coaching hospital message boards and more.” With social distancing during the pandemic, floor graphics have been in the spotlight recently, and Matheson says Shann Group will have plenty of solutions for both internal and external applications, including DryTac’s easy-to-apply SpotOn dot adhesive films which are ideal for short-term applications like POP...Read More. . .

Innovative Solutions the Focus on Böttcher’s PacPrint Stand

Böttcher Systems will show off its full range of solutions on its stand at PacPrint 2021, with a display it says will support all ‘four pillars’ of its business - carton packaging, printing with hybrid UV and Light Emitting Diode inks (HUV-LED), flexible packaging and commercial print. The result is a showcase which will be a real drawcard for visitors not only to PacPrint, but to the co-located Label & Packaging Expo. A focus of the show for Böttcher will be innovative solutions aimed at helping businesses reduce makeready times while also improving their sustainability record, says Managing Director, Mitch Mulligan (pictured left). “Böttcher’s ECS ‘Easy Cleaning System’, for instance, was designed with this in mind,” he says. “These easy-to-clean inking rollers incorporate special polymers and additives in the rubber to reduce the adhesion of the ink to the roller surface, effectively improving ink transfer whilst also enhancing the washability of the roller train. “This not only saves time, but means you can significantly reduce your wash consumption, typically by 30-50%. These ECS rollers are available for all drying technologies and in a range of durometers to accommodate printers’ and press manufacturers’ preferences.” As well as the special roller coverings, the ECS system now also includes washes with enhanced cleaning power, including the Mistral ECS which will be launched at PacPrint. “To make this product, we took our highest-quality conventional wash and made it even better,” Mulligan says. “New materials not only improve its ability to dissolve and remove ink from rollers and blankets, but increase the proportion of biological components in the wash, helping businesses reduce their environmental impact. “With businesses in this region among the most eco-conscious in the world, we believe PacPrint is a fitting place to launch the best wash Böttcher has ever made!” Tailor-made solutions for flexographic and rotogravure printing will also feature on the company’s PacPrint stand, with the proven CAMBIUM sleeve for plate mounting among them. “Valued by independent printers and packaging groups for their geometric and mechanical stability and low weight, CAMBIUM sleeves are now available internationally through the Böttcher Group with our worldwide production and sales companies,” Mulligan advises. “We’ll also be showing sleeves for plate assembly, including products from the BöttcherFlex product series which includes DLE elastomer sleeves and plates for direct laser engraving. DLE elastomer sleeves enable premium printing quality with the advantages of an endless seamless printing form.”  Pictured above (from left): Bottcher's DLE Sleeve and Plate; PM Sleeve and Thin-Classic Sleeves Böttcher’s flexible packaging range is complemented by its converting products, which include special products used on a wide variety of converting equipment to facilitate processing steps from varnishing to laminating, winding, slitting, die-cutting and embossing. “These products have been developed in response to the specific requirements of each processing step, maximising quality while minimising wear and tear, to increase longevity and reduce downtime,” Mulligan says. “And when it comes to gravure, we have Böttcher impression and inking rollers to help enhance production stability on both long and short print runs and ensure consistency when printing frequent repeat jobs. Featuring modern rubber and polyurethane coverings, these products meet the most stringent requirements for conventional and ESA package printing,” he explains. “The BöttcherFlex portfolio is rounded off by the new washing and care products, including VELVET for use with water colours and SOLVENTO for solvent and UV inks. This gives print service providers a full range of efficient cleaning products available for daily use, and for special deep cleaning of anilox rollers, we offer the product CREME, as well as HISONIC High Pressure for use with high pressure...Read More. . .

HEXIS specialises in high-performance self-adhesive cast PVC, polyurethane and latex films, offering highly innovative solutions for professionals in everything from digital printing, signage and visual communication, to vehicle wrapping and textile marking. Ian Parsonson, Managing Director of HEXIS Australia, says the company’s decision to host the HEXIS World Wrap Battle for the first time in Melbourne during the industry’s leading trade show will once again put the excellence of Australian wrappers and installers in the spotlight. “It’s been two years since the last battle rounds and we’re looking forward to having the industry’s best talent join in the battle, following the huge popularity of previous rounds in Sydney (pictured) and Brisbane, which not only showcased some amazing Aussie talent but saw winners walk away with trips to France and the USA,” Parsonson said today.
